Located 30 miles northeast of the Honduras coast out towards the Caribbean sea, lies a group of islands called the Bay Islands and the largest of them of all is Roatán.
Beyond the cities, Honduras has a lush countryside with historic sites and islands off the Caribbean coast waiting to be explored. A few miles from the Guatemala / Honduras border, lies the Spanish colonial town of Copán.
Panajachel is a small lakeside town and one of Guatemala’s emerging tourism destinations. The great Lake Atitlán is the main attraction here.

From San Ignacio we crossed borders and entered Guatemala. Our destination was the ancient Mayan city of Tikal, one of the largest excavated Mayan sites in Central America.
As we travelled closer to the Belizean-Guatemalan border we stopped a couple nights at San Ignacio and stayed at an eco lodge on the outskirts of the town to break up the journey.
